I used the photo-flo trick in the early 1990's, after coming upon it's use in a little book about audio restoration techniques I found at the library. It was a rather large (improper use) of the solution, but the fact it had a chemical effect at all on the surface of the records caused me to jettison it.
I know this has gone pretty far off topic.
