Regarding the new diamond discs, I saw them this October too, along with a copy of a 7" Berliner. I could not tell the difference to the original as long as they were laying on the table. They're still prototypes and to my knowledge no real progress was made since the first appearance at the April show.
I'm sure you are right. For some reason I recall that there was a reference to velvetone on the cylinder box. Now I check and it's not there??? I have no idea where I got that reference...
