Dang, as someone new to the hobby the book situation can be pretty disappointing. Not to mention the pricing algorithms on Amazon that drive book prices through the roof. I may be the odd one out of us younger fellows who likes print books more than digital copies for some things. I could buy an iPad and the eBook for what some people are asking on Amazon for the Edison Cylinder Phonograph Companion.

hello, Steven,
After you purchased your iPad, you could purchase an updated version of Frow's cylinder machine book on iTunes for $14.95.

The publisher, Mulholland Press, still sells the print version for $250.00. One of the vendors on AbeBooks lists it for $210. And it has sold for less on eBay in the recent past. The earlier version credited to Frow and Sefl, goes for even less, and is quite serviceable; I think the photo quality is better, in fact.
At least Frow's cylinder machine book still in print! But even a lot of out of print discographies are being incorporated into the Discography of American Historical Recordings (see link in my previous post).
Best wishes, Mark

Thanks Mark, I was poorly alluding to that eBook copy. I got a copy of the earlier version this week on eBay - it'll have to tide me over until I bite the bullet on Amazon or get lucky on eBay. I have a hard time justifying a $200+ book purchase to myself, even though I assume it's worth it. As much as I may complain, I'm glad that it is still in print as well.
