I was really impressed by your grain selection on your patch pieces. That can take hours to find a good match, almost like finding a fingerprint from a stranger that matches your own. Very nice work. How did you fix the interior structure that got shredded?

George,

It is like watching a magician at work...you can see and understand what he has done but keep wondering how he does it!!!

Evidently the phonograph belonged to a music critic with a bad aim: pointed to the cilinder and hit the lid.Excellent restoration work !

Thank you to everyone for the kudos. The interior holes are fiber filled.....I don't see the need to do grain surgery on them. I'm fortunate to have a rather large selection of 60+ year old veneer to choose grain patterns from. I don't think I would have been able to pull this off with veneer purchased in 2016. I have some old Edison and Victrola pieces that I pull chips off of as well. I have another machine in the works to post here....the weirdest one yet. I need to gather some parts to complete it though.

It's easy to imagine how this damage happened... ;)

Back in the days of peace and quiet at night, where you could still hear the crickets chirping and no freeway noise to drown them out, some damned kids had to fire up the old phonograph and disturb the peace with their annoying newfangled music...

Old Cy had a little too much cider that night and decided to put an end to the disturbance...
