I'm using a brass HMV #4 for electrics on my Vic 1! I need to figure out how to make one work on my front mount E. A little plumbing work, mayhaps...Zwebie wrote:I Totally Agree!

Pretty well bulletproof, and as said can be used with a Victrola #4 reproducer for the electrics.
I have to admit that I have a Vic 1, a Vic 5, and an early front mount Vic E, and the side noise on these machines is irritating. It doesn't seem to interfere with the music but it is just annoying. No, only the E has the upright governor. The early style with the vertical governor do tend to be noisy (I'm thankful that my E is fairly quiet for its type), but the later, worm-drive motors are generally pretty quiet, if properly adjusted.

I have a Vic 1, Vic III and a front mount Vic E. The early machines with straight cut gears are noisy. The worm gear motors are definitely quieter unless they are heavily worn.
