Hello Mr. Grumpy

Here are a few pictures of my Edison Opera. The cabinet and corner columns are original. You can see that they do not come all the way out flush with the base moulding but are inset.

Mine looks exactly like Pete's......including being able to see a little of the finger joint near the top of the column in his second picture.
There is also a thin space ( maybe 1/32"-1/16" )between the bottom of the columns & the base........maybe it has shrunk through the years?

I'll try to get you something this evening, or as soon as I can. Busy time of year...

Thank you very much for the pictures Pete, and for the additional information Dale!

I've since been notified that the images I posted of the original machine with the larger bottomed columns
are actually reproduction columns. So it looks like just the reproduction ones are fatty. Here's hoping the column I collect from my friend later this week is an original and not a reproduction.

Jerry, Christmas can wait. This is important stuff right here.

O.K., here you go. A few notes first.
- The diameters of the beads at the top & bottom of the columns are so close in diameter that they're probably meant to be the same.
- There is a slight gap at the top & bottom of the column, keeping it just slightly off the base molding and off the top frame.
- The column covers the box finger joint completely.
- The widest part of the column stands .300" off the face of the cabinet and the bottom bead does not overhang the base.
- This example is oak.

Incredible Jerry, Thanks for all your help. That diagram will help considerably as I don't
think I'll be able to use the one my friend gave me. It too seems way too large, and he promises
me that it's original and fits his machine fine.

Maybe I have an Edison standard? ;)
