I thought so, too, but Lombardo's "Moonglow" was recorded in NY- not Chicago- on August 13, 1934 which puts it right in the target dates on the right label (Decca 103) but wrong place and wrong matrix number- 38292.

Rust shows Lombardo's last Chicago Decca Depression- era session as Sept. 27 1933 and then he recorded exclusively in NYC and LA until he did so in Chicago again July 2 1936- for Victor, not Decca.

Just a wild guess, the vocalist sounds like Joey Nash to me (Richard Himber's vocalist). I'm listening through small computer speakers.

It sounds like a few different vocalists, I'll agree. Himber, however, was recording for Victor in 1934, having left Vocalion in late 1933. I don't think he ever recorded "Moonglow", either.

Nash sang with some other bands of the era, too, mainly on Bluebird.

I'm coming up empty on this one.

Thanks for all of the replies. I guess we just have to accept the mystery, for now. ;)

James.
