I'm thinking of eventually using a rack system rather than shelving though.

I will add "genuine heavy duty milk crates" should be used. Walmart and Target sell these look alike milk crates and they are thin and flimsy. I do not trust carrying records in them. I thought to mention this since some collectors might confuse the types.

These were bought at Sam's Club about 4 years ago. Like most things, the same style isn't available now.
If you shop around for these I'd recommend taking along a milk crate to see how it fits. Be sure the shelves have support rims around the bottoms so they won't sag. Stay away from chipboard or plastic.

This is a simple build using 1 sheet of plywood.

Interesting idea. Thanks for posting. My only suggestion would be to add a lot more support for the upper shelf. Record weight adds up very, very fast!
