47. Victor Set AC-18, Paul Whiteman Concert Orch., Grofe Grand Canyon Suite. This is a c. 1940 pressing from original 1932 stampers, with gold circular black labels. Read carefully: Even though this is a later label style, it's original stampers with the "diamond" shaped "VE" stamped in the runoff with no lead- in grooves. What's rare about this set is that it is sequenced for an automatic changer. So if you have an early 1930s changer here's your chance to show off! This set is really high fidelity too. 4 12" records in E+ condition that play about as close to NM as you could want, and the original binder is in great physical condition- no serious splits or loose binding, and just a sligh bit of fade and scuffing on the covers. There's the remnants of an old "Ex Libris" type sticker inside the back cover.
$40.00
48. Victor 12" black batwing 35280- Victor Minstrel Company "New Orleans Minstrels" (At A Georgia Camp Meeting / All I Wants Is My Black Baby Back / On Emancipation Day) / Golden & Hughes "Unlucky Mose". Visual E- , plays NM with great labels. No- longer- politically- correct entertainment from the Jim Crow era... $40.00
49. Columbia black "Big Note" 12" A5827, Prince's Band "On The Hoko Moko Isle" (one- step) / "Siam" (Fox Trot). Marching band ragtime! e-, plays E+ with great labels and a shallow scratch B not affecting play $25.00
50.Columbia Grafonola 12" blue label A5780, Prince's Band "Underneath The Stars" / "Hello Hawaii, How Are You?" Both are styled as "fox trots" but A is kind of a waltzy snoozer while B has some definite ragtime passages. Visual E- that plays E with a short scratch A not affecting play. $15.00

51. Victor 22476, Henry Thies Orch. "Havin' You Around Is Heaven" / "Here Comes Emily Brown", visual E- plays E, slight label fade B, GREAT hot version of Emily Brown by this Cincinnati and Detroit based territory band, very tough to find and once you hear it you can't stop playing it! $35.00
52. Victor 21793, Jack Pettis and his Pets, "Freshman Hop" / "A Bag Of Blues". Visual V++, plays E with slight graininess. Pettis, Al Goering, and Eddie Lang in the band on this record. Essential hot jazz! $20.00 SOLD!
53. Columbia 454-D, Harry Reser's Syncopators, Sweet Man" / "Speech!". Visual V- that plays V+ to E- as these laminated Columbias often do. Label fade B. "Sweet Man" is probably one of the best Charleston "clones" and this is the best and hottest version. Difficult to find. $20.00
54.Victor 22830, Lofner- Harris Hotel St. Francis Orch. "I Got The Ritz From The One I Love" / "I'm Sorry Dear", visual E- with a stain side A that lightly swishes at the beginning but clears up fast to an aural E to E+. Phil Harris' vocal debut on "Ritz" which is just fantastic. $40.00
55. Victor 22054, Gus Arnheim Orch "Lovable and Sweet", fine version / All Star Orch. "My Dream Memory". Not one of the better All Star sides IMO but Tommy Dorsey and Fud Livingston present, possibly Murray Kellner on violin. Visual E+ plays at grade or better; fine copy, light sticker adhesive A, $15.00
56. Electrola 2736 (German pressings of Victor/ HMV sides) The New Yorkers (Gene Kardos) "Crazy People" / Ambrose, "Happy Go Lucky You". Crazy People is crazy hot. May 1932 sides. Very tough to find this Kardos side (also issued on Victor 24009). Visual V+, plays E or better, nice labels $30.00
57. Victor 22016, Gus Arnheim "I'm Feathering A Nest" / Herman Kenin Orch. "I'm Doin' What I'm Doin' For Love" Visual E plays E+ or better in original dealer sleeve! July 19, 1929 release date. Kenin is a fine band originating from the Multnomah Hotel in Portland Oregon which still exists. $25.00
58. Electradisk 1911, Pennsylvania Collegians "Save A Rainy Day For Me" / "One Little Word Led To Another". Electradisk and Timely Tunes were two very short lived Victor budget labels that only pressed in 1932; both were folded into the Bluebird catalog by 1933. Visual V+ to E-, plays E, great labels $35.00
59. Electradisk 2092, Ernie Holst Hotel Lexington Orch. "Dinner At Eight" (Ernie Holst vocal) / "Bless Your Heart" (Edith Caldwell vocal), visual and aural E+ to New Minus, just a lovely copy with perfect labels, 1932- only Victor budget label, very scarce $50.00
60. Brunswick 4112, Meyer Davis Swanee Syncopators with the great Eddie Thomas "My Old Girl Is My New Girl Now" / Hotsy Totsy Gang, Irving Mills as "Milton Irving" vocal, "I Couldn't If I Wanted To (I Wouldn't If I Could)". Fantastic hot side with a great syncopated arrangement and great extended Jack Teagarden solo after the vocal. FANTASTIC band with Jimmy McPartland, Benny Goodman, Gil Rodin, Vic Breidis, Dick Morgan, Harry Goodman, Ben Pollack. Visual scuffy V+ that plays right around E, very slight label wear... a real toughie! You'll like it! $40.00 SOLD!

61. Columbia 1694-D, Ipana Troubadors (Sam Lanin) "I'll Get By (As Long As I Have You)" / "Rose Of Mandalay". Uncredited Bing Crosby vocals. Leo McConville, Manny Klein, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Merle Johnston, Vic Berton in the band on this December 1928 session. Visual V+ that plays up to E, with some greying and a slightly rough start A that clears up after the first few intro notes. VERY coveted by Crosby collectors, this record is hard to find! $45.00
62. British Columbia 3669, Sam Lanin Orch as "Hannah Dance Band", "King Porter Stomp" / "That's My Girl", visual E that plays E+ with a lam crack B not affecting play. $15.00
63. OKeh 41228- Sam Lanin and his Famous Players, "Susianna" / "I'm Crazy Over You" Uncredited BING CROSBY vocals. Please note that this record has condition issues. It has lots of scratches, scuffs, loss of gloss, but not a lot of play wear. I'll rate this one a visual G+ that actually plays V to V+ with a 2 mil stylus to get down past all the surface noise and some e.q... the only reason I'm even offering this is due to the rarity. I got by with this copy for 20 years before I paid $450 for a better copy. I've seen this record in E+ go for over a grand. Last V+ copy I found on eBay went for $250.00. This is a good copy to play on a windup. I'll try to post a video of it playing on my Columbia 202 after awhile.
What's fair? $50.00? I'll take offers on this one.
64. Victor 21491, Charlie Johnson's Paradise Ten "Charleston Is The Best Dance After All" / Lloyd Scott's Orchestra "Harlem Shuffle". What can I say? You know if you can even find this on eBay, as MC Hammer used to say "U cain't touch dis". This is the best Charleston themed record out there, BAR NONE, and swings way harder than the actual "Charleston". Band includes Jabbo Smith, Benny Carter, Edgar Sampson. This is Benny's second record date and his first arranging gig- and he got it right right away. Visual V to V+, slight label fade A, plays V+ to maybe E- and a little noisy on A because it's a LOUD record, but where will you find another one? Plus, you know if you're not happy for any reason I'll buy it back including return postage, right? That's how I guarantee all my records. $100.00

Here's the actual recording being offered in #64 being played on the HMV 104 I have up for sale on a different ad. This is a 3 way cross promotional video showing off the record and the machine, along with one of the Mica Monster's Orthophonic Portable overhauls. I think he does "OKeh" work!

Some really nice Depression era Royal Blue Shellac Columbia Jazz and dance band stuff:
65. Columbia 3074-D, Vic Berton Orch. "I've Been Waiting All Winter" / "Devil's Kitchen" fantastic cabaret- style jazz band. June 1935. Visual E-, plays E+ or better $45.00
66. Columbia 3086-D, Jacques Renard Orch "I'd Love To Take Orders From You" (Chick Bullock v.) / "I'd Rather Listen To Your Eyes" (Smith Ballew v.). Final recording date for this fine dance band, September 1935. Nearly the end of the line for Royal Blue records, too! Visual E, plays E+ or better. Fine copy. $35.00
67. Col. 2882-D, Emil Coleman Palais Royal Orch. "Without That Certain Thing" / "I Was In The Mood". Jerry Cooper vocals. Visual E+, plays like new, beautiful copy. $30.00
68. Col. 2815-D, Meyer Davis Orch. "Thanks" / "The Day You Came Along", Lou Conrad vocals. Beautiful visual E+ to New Minus, plays about as brand- new as you can get! $30.00
69. Columbia 3077-D, Phil Ohman Orch (the Ohman in Arden- Ohman, who dissolved their partnership in 1933) "Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails" / "Cheek To Cheek". Kenneth Baker vocal. The end of the line for Phil Ohman who, if memory serves, went to play for Paul Whiteman after this. July 1935 issue. Visual E- that plays E EXCEPT 3 needle drops on "Tails" clicked a few times but passed on my Dual 1009. $25.00
70. Col. 2921-D, Earl Burtnett and his Drake Hotel Orch. "Ridin' Around In The Rain" / "Waitin' At The Gate For Katy". Biltmore Trio vocals. This May 1934 record date is the end of the line for this great longtime L.A. band, and what a way to exit but with two jazzy Depression essentials. Note that this Katy isn't the "Waitin' For Katy" Katy that Ben Pollack and Guy Lombardo went on about in the 1920s- this Katy involves waiting at a gate. Visual E+ that plays just grand, sticker on Katy label. This is a tough one! $55.00

Re: FOR SALE- Lousy, Overpriced Records update 3/23- VARIOUS
52000 series Edison Diamond Discs:
82. 52032 Rolfe- "Down In The Old Neighborhood" (Waltz)/ Duke Yellman "My Regular Gal" vocal Macy and Ryan, top copy visual E++, plays N, $100
83. 52061 Julian Webster Bay State Aces "Meet Me In The Moonlight" / "Just Once Again" visual E-, plays E to E+, slight label dmg "Meet Me" $75.
84. 52087 Oreste's Queensland Orch "Side By Side" / "Eyeful Of You" Arthur Fields and Jack Kaufman vocals. Visual V+ as "Side" side looks slightly worn/ grey but plays E to E+. $75
85. 52099 Winegar's Penn. Boys "Oooh! Maybe It's You" / Al Lynn's Music Masters "Marvelous". Great sides. Winegar's side is visual E, plays E+. I'm calling the Lynn side V+ because of a couple small brownish "swooshes" that played through just fine. Plays E- to E $75
86. 52103 Al Friedman Orch "Manhattan Mary" / Oreste Queensland "Moonlit Waters" v E, p E+. $100
87. 52156 Joe Green Novelty O, Art Fields "Did you Mean It"/ "So Tired" vE-, spotty NAP, p E to E+ $50
88. 52167 Picadilly Players and Singers "Someday Sweetheart"- this is identified as an Edison Studio band directed by Mel Morris, but this is a hot jazzy dance version of this Spikes Bros tune that sounds a lot like a Sam Lanin band at its best- with possibly Tommy Dorsey on tb and a hot unknown trumpet- maybe Tommy or brother Jimmy? Both were known to double on tpt and were quite good (although not much, if anything, exists of JD recording on tpt). Anyways, this is a "must have". / Oreste Queensland "I'm Walkin On Air". visual V+ due to superficial marks and a shallow scratch "Sweetheart" side not affecting play. $125
89. 52168 B.A.Rolfe O "When The Robert E Lee Comes To Town" / Irwin Abrams O "Moon Of Japan". Great Rolfe! Visual V+ (again due to these damn spots that do NOT affect play), plays E+ $100

87. 52156 Joe Green Novelty O, Art Fields "Did you Mean It"/ "So Tired" vE-, spotty NAP, p E to E+ $50
88. 52167 Picadilly Players and Singers "Someday Sweetheart"- this is identified as an Edison Studio band directed by Mel Morris, but this is a hot jazzy dance version of this Spikes Bros tune that sounds a lot like a Sam Lanin band at its best- with possibly Tommy Dorsey on tb and a hot unknown trumpet- maybe Tommy or brother Jimmy? Both were known to double on tpt and were quite good (although not much, if anything, exists of JD recording on tpt). Anyways, this is a "must have". / Oreste Queensland "I'm Walkin On Air". visual V+ due to superficial marks and a shallow scratch "Sweetheart" side not affecting play. $125
