There are; the first "needle type portable", the P-1, and the P-2. All are scarce.

You appear to have a P-2 given the nickel plating and dark fabric. The P-1 has gold plating and a greenish cover. It is also noticeably larger than the P-2. Search the board for "edison portable" and you'll find pictures of the P-1 and possibly the others too.

A model known as the "Needle Type Portable", also from Prime, was introduced in January 1929. It appears to have been a stop-gap until the P-1 and P-2 portables became available later in 1929.

Quick Question -- Do the P-1 and P-2 have the same horn/tone chamber? I understand that the P-1 was fitted with a folded chamber made out of stiffened and sealed fabric, as described on this page --

"P-1 Needle Type Portable
Horn: Of new design with an air-column length of 53 ½ in. from soundbox to mouth and claimed to be the longest horn in any portable – 'the new principle reflex horn'. The ball bearing tone arm had an exponential characteristic."

Frow does not mention it, but it is likely the P-2 had the same "reflex" horn as the P-1.
