I dont feel comfortable giving out that kind of information on a site with no security. When I click on the "join" link, I get a warning that the connection to this site in unsecure and that I should not give any personal or credit card information. It could be something as simple as their security certificates being out dated. Having been through the nightmare of identity theft twice, I am probably a little extra cautious.
Aha. Is it possible you're using Google Chrome?

Please be assured that the APS website and content is highly secure and we divulge no personal information nor put it at risk. Some recent changes in browser settings (including Google Chrome) have caused erroneous Security Warnings to be displayed and our technical team is evaluating and testing the appropriate code patches to prevent these undue, inaccurate warnings.

The address/email/phone data is collected for mailings of The Antique Phonograph, and this information is stored off the web site. (Email/phone information allows the APS to contact a member in case of a problem.) For the Members-Only sections of the web site, all that's needed is a User Name and Email Address. The Password is simply to allow access to the Members-Only sections.

There are members of this forum who can attest that the Antique Phonograph Society guards its members' privacy. Names, addresses, or other information are never given out without the owner's permission.

Still, for anyone who is uncomfortable using the Internet to join, there is a printable form and mailing address where it may be sent, as seen on the "Join Us" page of the APS web site:

http://www.antiquephono.org/join-us-home/

We hope the foregoing clears up any misapprehensions, and we look forward to welcoming new members. :)

Cliff, I've sent you a PM - -

Wonderful - - welcome aboard, Cliff! :)

My copy of The Antique Phonograph arrived today. I've only scanned through it, but there seem to be some very interesting articles. The William Hammer/early electricity article (which I thumbed through a little more carefully) seems to compliment the January 1890 article on Electricity in the Household posted on the APS web site. Interesting stuff!
