One thing... I've noticed a rash lately of people on other online forums referring to their "Victor XVI" or "Victor XI," and it makes me wince. They're VICTROLAS. Victors have external horns; Victrolas have internal horns. And when it comes to a IV or a VI, there's a huge difference between each type.

I'd encourage everyone - especially newer collectors - to avoid this bad habit.

Best to all,

:)

That reminds me of a time before the Internet, when a seller in Rochester NY was advertising his "RCA Victrola" for around $200 in the newspaper want ads. The guy listed it for several weeks, but it finally disappeared. A short time later I was talking to a friend and he described his recent purchase of a Victor (I've forgotten which model) with a wooden horn... Yep - the same machine. I was pleased that my friend got it, but I could have been even happier... ;)

I started following up on every "RCA Victrola" or any other brand name (real, imagined, or just mangled) listed in those want ads but lightning seldom strikes twice in the same place. It was a good lesson to never trust a non-collector's description.
