Do you find that the type of wax blank used has anything to do with the volume? This was a new blank. Ive got an original brown wax blank that I want to try also.
The folks producing new blanks have been carefully researching the original formulas and techniques; so I would say that their products are likely as good as the originals (if not better: the old manufacturers had to consider the quantity of their product, while our suppliers concentrate more on the quality).

All things being equal, recording quality depends a good deal upon the recorder itself (good diaphragm and gaskets, and a nice sharp sapphire), and the conditions in the recording venue (especially temperature: a blank warmed to about 90 degrees F will be more sensitive than at a lower temperature).

Don't forget to include an announcement in your recordings. We don't want collectors in a 100 yrs thinking they have a 217 year old record. :D Go ahead and blow your own horn.

Good point Kevan. The recordings I made yesterday were just for practice. For the ones I want to keep, I'll announce the song/date/artist at the beginning. Thanks
