The folks producing new blanks have been carefully researching the original formulas and techniques; so I would say that their products are likely as good as the originals (if not better: the old manufacturers had to consider the quantity of their product, while our suppliers concentrate more on the quality).hearsedriver wrote:Thanks for the tips Chuck! I have been working out of town for a couple of weeks so, this was the first day Ive had to play with it. Do you find that the type of wax blank used has anything to do with the volume? This was a new blank. Ive got an original brown wax blank that I want to try also.
All things being equal, recording quality depends a good deal upon the recorder itself (good diaphragm and gaskets, and a nice sharp sapphire), and the conditions in the recording venue (especially temperature: a blank warmed to about 90 degrees F will be more sensitive than at a lower temperature).
