I've seen single-letter markings occasionally on B and Q Graphophones. I'm not sure of their purpose or meaning.

Keep in mind that by purchasing the $1 box, any Q could be made into a QB. Unless we can trace the provenance of two QBs back to purchase, serial numbering won't be helpful. In addition, dealers could make up QBs from their existing stock.

I don't see a stability advantage to the recessed design, but the possibility of pinched fingers between the key and base would have been a definite "improvement!" :)
