Re: craigslist alerts
That's a front-mount horn, but not a 'rigid-arm'. The rigid-arm Victors are back-mount, with a tone arm that is a constant-diameter tube (not tapering). The reproducer is mounted to a flat metal flange that pivots against the tone arm. When the reproducer is in playing position, the hole in the reproducer and flange lines up with the hole in the side of the taper tube to allow sound to pass. When the reproducer is flipped back into the rest position, it is physically impossible for the sound to pass out of the reproducer and into the tone arm because the holes are no longer aligned. The vertical movement of the reproducer on the pivot is also the 'play' later accomplished by the goose-neck. The horn elbow and horn mounting system of the rigid-arm models is much smaller diameter and different from the later taper-tube back-mounts as well.
Looks like a good buy, though! Good spot!

Re: craigslist alerts
That " Mason and Risch" seems odd. It looks like a Victrola with the curves sliced off. Mason and Risch were along with Heintzman and Nordheimer, the third of the Toronto " Big Three' piano manufacturers in the years before 1940. The did sell a machine under their own name for a couple of years, but they were also Victor dealers, and the machines they sold always came with a " from Mason and Risch' decal...very much like this. I wish I could see a better pic of this one, because the tone arm looks very Victor-ish. The M&R stuff that I've seen is different.

Could that Mason and Risch possibly a Victrola XIII?

Re: craigslist alerts
Well, Jim I had that thoughtand if it is , it's a major rarity, but it's hard to tell from the pics what the legs are like. I think it's been refinished too. But I can't think that the Berliner/VictorT.M.Co of Canada would let any company put louvres in the horn without a letter from the legal department...especially a firm like Mason & Risch who was a Berliner/Victor dealer in Toronto.

Here is an interesting one. Four horns for sale. One of them appears to be a recording horn? 56" long!!

Re: craigslist alerts
Covah - LOL in theory it should work! It's just an electric turntable.

Sonny - my guess if it's fake/fraud. There are these crazy rare phonograph listings on London craigslist recently and they've been fake. (like this, Edison coin-op)SonnyPhono wrote:Here is a nice find...too bad it's over seas!
