"Fireworks" by The Original Memphis Five. If this music doesn't quicken your pulse, you should see a doctor.

"Riverboat Blues" issued in the UK on Edison Bell Winner 4874 as The Midnight Stompers, but actually Devine's Wisconsin Roof Orchestra recorded in Chicago in December 1927. Issued in the USA on Broadway 1142, Paramount 20584 and possibly others.

The other side "Tiger Rag" is pretty good too!

"Turn on the Heat" That is SO funny to me. I used to work with a gal who was born in 1921 and since Betty was the youngest in her family she knew all kinds of 20's dance music. They would play that song on the radio once in awhile during a Big Band radio program that was on a local radio station back in the late 70's. Betty was rather good sized and she would sing along with that song and shake her hind end so the rest of her went every which way. Holy cow that was funny and probably horrifying at the same time.... She was definitely a show stopper on that one (And REALLY good looking when she was young). She really liked Ruth Etting as well and could also dance the Charleston quite well. I thought she was really old at the time and now I find I'm about that same age. Funny how that goes. Haha!

I mostly collect acoustic dance music, so this is a tough one...

Wabash Blues (the DD version)
Dew Dew Dewey Day (on DD)
Charleston, Cameo/Californa Ramblers and the version on Perfect may be my favorites.
The later piano recordings of Maple Leaf Rag
Jim Europe's version of Too Much Mustard
Whiteman Stomp (Victor scroll label)
Billy Murray's version of Everybody Two-Step
Here Comes the Showboat (on DD)

Roger Wolfe Kahn. "Hot- Hot- Hottentot" Victor
Ben Selvin as Knickerbockers "Titina" on Columbia
Varsity Eight "Last Night On The Back Porch" Cameo

LOL! Great one. If you like that the Ben Selvin (Columbia) and Fred "Sugar" Hall (OKeh) versions are great, too!

The flip side of the Fred Hall disc ain't no slouch, either:

I think the Fred Hall/ Arthur Fields collaborations on OKeh and Edison (as Arthur Fields and his Assassinators) are some of the most under- appreciated recordings of the Jazz Age.

Here are some more good ones:

Jimmie Lunceford's 1934 scorcher White Heat comes to mind. Ted Lewis did a cover of this, but it was not as hot as Jimmie's version.
