What I found to work way better than the original Victor O-ring design is 2.5-3mm foam rubber string. It's very soft, yet solid and will be too thin for most other reproducers, but it did wonders on my No. 4. It should work the same way in a No. 2. The original one-piece ring, did always appear to be too stiff on the diaphragm. With the foam rubber string, the volume increased significantly and also the bass response was finally there.

And it's miraculously cheap: I can get 3 ft. for just $2, when finding the right dealer.

That sounds like a great idea I've found some 2mm 3mm and 4mm and will try on some soundboxes

What is the standard diameter gasket material for most reproducers?

Did you use that on a replacement mica diaphragm for the No. 4 or on an original with the metal edge?

I used it on an original HMV No. 4 diaphragm but these have no metal edge. Still working beautifully, though.
