Thanks for the comments so far. In my case, "other people" is not an option, given that my youngest neighbor is about 65.
So, other than "other people", so far the primary recommendation is an appliance dolly, perhaps with some kind of added boards. I'd like to see photos of this sort of thing. I'm also open to other types of suggestions.
Thanks again!

Now I'm getting fired up!

I just turned 65 on Wednesday and I can lift Victrolas with the best of them.

When I got my S-19, I asked a friend if they wanted to hang out. They said yes, and plot twist, they ended up helping me move the machine. Bought them a nice lunch though.

Happy birthday Jerry... You younger wipper snappers should be able to lift two Victrola's at once. Has anybody seen those straps that uses two people and can easily lift a refrigerator .. I do not have anything wide to lit but the dolly and board sound like the way to go.. Tom B

If I like my friends, I take the records out of the cabinet below before I ask them to move it.

if you're good with ropes and know a sailors nut or two you can turn your upright phono into a BIG! backpack! just make loops where your arms should go (and fit foam tubes) on the back of the cabinet ...step in and lift!... I moved quite a number of them this way over the years here in holland
I don't have a car so if I have to collect a phonograph cross country I go by train you'll get some strange looks by people but I don't have to drag the thing and... if it's not an Edison it will be surprisingly light! and relatively easygoing
and for console models? I don't have one so go figure that one out!!
