Re: New with two questions
You may be able to search old Sears catalogs online. Check the period from 1925-30, as the machine appears to be from that era.phonogal wrote:The Silvertone machines were sold through Sears.I don't believe they were marked with a model or serial number so most of the information as to model and dating is by old catologs or advertising. If you will post a picture, someone on the forum may know what the model is. Parts from Victor Victrolas wont be the same as for your Silvertone. You will probably be able to find the parts you need on Ebay or you can place a wanted ad on the yankee trader on this site. George Vollema has many parts. His contact can be found in the links section. Welcome to the forum.

Re: New with two questions
The Sears Tru-Phonic line was introduced in 1926, and was designed to play the recently introduced electrically recorded records with enhanced fidelity compared to the earlier Silvertone models. It completed with the Victor Orthophonic, Columbia Viva Tonal, Brunswick Exponential Horn Panatrope, etc., but sold for about half the price of the models produced by those companies.
I posted a video of a restored mid-sized Tru-Phonic here -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... =2&t=30795 As you can tell, it sounds more like an electrically amplified phonograph than an acoustic one. The one you have should sound about the same once it is restored.
I believe that your model was listed in the 1927 Sears Catalog. I used to have a copy of the reproduced catalog issued back in the late 1970s/early 1980s. (If someone on this has a copy, could they glance through the Tru-Phonic section?)

Here's a bit more --tinear wrote:Thanks for that information Orthofan
A member of this forum -- beat_truck -- has a model that looks to be identical to the one you have, albeit refinished with a replacement sound box and grille -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... f=2&t=6351
Also, there have been a number of posts on this forum about off brand Orthophonic era phonographs, including Tru-Phonic models -- https://www.google.com/search?as_q=Sear ... as_qdr=all
I'm wondering if your machine's horn has the baffle as noted in Kirkwood's post in this string -- http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... 4&start=30
