A close examination of the photo is suspicious. I didn't get a close look at the phono, too much to look at, but just took a picture. The sellers did not tout it as mahogany. It just appeared to me to be mahogany from the photo.

When I go back, I will look closer.

Cliff,

I once found a mahogany Standard in the wild.
I believe that the mahogany cases had a nickel "button" on each end of the top front of the case (just to the outside and in front of the bedplate).
I hope I am correct in my assertion.

It's not a mahogany case.

Totally agree.

I've never seen a mahogany example of that particular style of cabinet, (not conclusive in itself), and the mahogany ones usually have little round metal buttons at each corner of the wooden motor frame.

Plus, it looks like oak...

Make sure that you check it out and that it actually mahogany. Some people stain over the oak cases with mahogany stain.
I would say buy it if it is really mahogany.

All the best,

Ditto. The inside of that cabinet looks suspiciously like oak...

I am with George on this one. It really looks like an oak cabinet that somebody has taken some mahogany Minwax stain and gone over. Just my two cents

Here are two photos of the mahogany Standard that I once owned.
You can see the two nickel "buttons" on the top frame and in front of the bedplate.
I am pretty sure that all factory mahogany Edison cylinder players had these "buttons".

Here's one I owned years ago. The picture is poor but yes, it had the 'buttons.'

I'm thinking you are all correct. Bummer...

I haven't been able to see this a second time to do a close examination, I just thought it was mahogany 'cuz it looked like it in the photo. When I can examine it closer, I will get better pictures. Have to wait for these folks to call me.

P.S. - TinfoilPhono - Yours was beautiful!
