Steve Levi wrote:Amazing!!!! Kudos on your machine and your finding it! There must have been something in the moon and stars that was meant for your discovery, let alone your purchase. It is a great story and an unbelievable find! Thanks for sharing! Steve L.
I think it was the eclipse...
I wasn't so appreciative of the aftermath of the eclipse though... 4 hours each way on I-40 in post eclipse traffic was not fun...

The guy wasn't a collector, but just liked it. He got it from a 90+ year old guy who had it since the '70s. It was apparently used to give concerts back in the day, since it has several playbills and admission tickets with it, along with some moldy brown wax cylinders...

Curt,
Congratulations on a spectacular find!! I'm glad that you were able to make a deal and get it, the phonograph gods are definitely smiling on you. I look forward to seeing it in person.

What a great find, congrats.
This type of thing happens just often enough to keep us all looking for that next hidden treasure.

Great story along with the tickets and advertisements. It would make a great display with its history. Almost as good as winning the Powerball.. Tom B

How is the cylinder put on the mandrel? Do you pull the knob on the right and remove the mandrel and install the cylinder and reinstall mandrel and push knob in? Never seen this before.

Aside from the incredible discovery, I find it most amazing that Shawn should have the next consecutive serial number machine. Think of it. What are the chances, that they should both be discovered and their serial numbers should be consecutive and both appear on this forum?
Really, they should both sit side-by-side on the same shelf.... in my house. Ha!
