seriously, any material objects can really be replaced... and we're lucky enough - being in the northeast/midAtlantic region - to have access to a lot of machines that come up for sale, there just always seems to be a lot around here and I've never had too much trouble finding them (including some pretty uncommon ones, many of which I've passed over during the past few years - although I was able to find a XX at auction once, but sold it during law school for financial reasons). so if there's no really strong emotional attachment to them (aside from the one heirloom machine you mentioned), then if you need the money and can sell them for a decent price, why not... unless of course you can get by on funds from some other source. but really, I don't think that most of these machines will be getting much harder to find over the next several years... and there will always be incredible deals out there. so don't let that fear stop you.
