I've seen that several years ago. Don't know if was posted on another board or if I stumbled across it on an internet search but there are some nightmares you just never forget!
Ever seen a film called 'The Tree Monster'?

Bob,
I cannot say that I have, although searching IMDb for it returned the 1964 film ‘
Darna at ang Babaing Tuod (Darna and the Tree Monster)’. Is this the movie you mean?
...and if so, does the Tree Monster have this phonograph?

My Cholla cactus-veneered Victrola (custom built for Tom Mix) can give that one a run for its money!

I am at a loss too- does the sound come out of the horn, or from the lyre on the front- or both!

Quite unique folk art piece
I sincerely doubt that this is "folk art". My gut feeling is that this was originally an expensive showpiece by a fashionable designer of some sort.
I must confess I like it!

Fredrik, I like it too! However, I would prefer the "bushy-tailed squirrel running up a tree" model.

No. It was one of those classic 1950's 'B' movies with some guy walking around in a rubber tree terrorizing people. If I remember correctly he was tied or staked to a tree and became a part of it.
I just did a google search on it and couldn't find a thing. I really hope I haven't imagined this!
