Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Br, it's really getting cold outside, let's rather get some music inside.

Recently I uncovered some old gramophone pictures that I had drawn over 20 years ago. I did place a couple on the forum quite a while back. I do not think I have placed this one before and as it is the season of frivolity, etc, and goodwill to all, I hope you find it amusing, and that the print is not too small as I remember typing it out, and sticking it on the picture. Has anyone on the forum got a "Cascade"? They are not common, and never were, but only cost just over £10 when new in the early 1930s. The poor man' E.M.G. they were called.

Gramophones have reached prices that even adult professionals in the middle of their careers struggle to afford. So: no, we won't see any noticeable increase in young chaps taking interest for these expensive machines, nor in the forthcoming year, nor in the foreseeable future.

However, thank you very much for your Christmas greetings! The sketch was amusing! :D I wish you (and all) in return a merry Christmas and a happy new year! :clover:
Marco,

There are still cheap machines to be had for beginners. When I began I couldn't afford, (or did not yet want to afford the better stuff). Most collectors don't begin with Berliners & glass-sided Zonophones. Just read some of the postings on this forum of younger guys who bought an average Victrola, sometimes very run down, and are thrilled about restoring it. I love that! reminds me of when this was all new & exciting.

Here's why I own some phonographs...They're cheap. I always wanted one. Or two, or six. And they sound really good, so why don't I have some more? Because I'm saving for records. And saving for my first car, too--I want a 1926 or 1927 Ford Model T. (This stuff that only lasts 25 years and breaks, is getting on my nerves. Man can make better than that. God gave us the knack.)

I won't be able to afford the car, though--no money to begin with, and always buying records!

By the way, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

So, did Santa bring a "gramo" or a record to any of you kids? ;)
