I assume the sample discs are the Long Play (LP) records that can only be played with a phonograph having the LP gear mechanism and LP reproducer, correct?

No, these are standard-pitch Diamond Disc grooves, playable on any Edison disc machine.
There's at least one true Long-playing demo disc edition with five full tunes on each side.

Thanks for the information. I wonder why Edison didin't produce more of these type of standard diamond groove records with multiple songs on a single side instead of the trying to pursue the LP diamond grooves and records...

Never mind, I just saw a video clip on line and noticed that the sampler record has snippets of each song instead of the entire songs. Now that makes sense.

As Bob mentioned, these play on standard DD machines. In the video in the first post you can see the sample disc playing on my perfectly boring B19
