I own three Brunswicks: an oak Model 105 table model, an oak Model 110 floor model and a Model 125 in Japanese Lacquer.
They are all wonderful machines. Very high quality machines that sound great!

These are nice machines in that you can switch between the two types of Ultona reproducers so that they can play only vertical and lateral records, or the Edison Diamond Discs (DDs) as well. However, I've heard that these machines produce extra wear on the DDs because there is no worm screw that guides the reproducer across the records like in the Edison DD phonographs...instead the reproducer is guided across the record by the weight of the reproducer following the record groove. Maybe this is why the DDs tend to play louder, but produce more wear on the grooves...

I have had three Brunswicks. I have two now. A Sharon model and for a long time it was the only machine I had that could play the Edison DD records. It does a great job too. I had a portable which I donated to raise funds for a charity and now have a portable Panatrope which I love. Your machine is just magnificent. A beauty for sure. Congratulations on finding it. I have a 1922 Brunswick York and a 1929 Panatrope portable. The York has a single-face Ultona for Pathé or Victor records, and is a real dream machine. The Panatrope is very nicely made but I can't vouch for sound quality as it is currently dismantled.

The love of Brunswick Phonographs is real, but I only wish there were more of the good Brunswick Records around here.

I am a great admirer of the Brunswick Ultona soundbox system which I consider to be a superb, effective and extremely clever design. In addition to allowing every type of shellac record to be played, the inclusion of a counter-weight is a stroke of genius---and very necessary. I would agree with "gramophone-georg" that DDs play better on an Ultona Brunswick than on most DD machines. I have found the same to be true when an EMG is converted to play DD records :

Here are 2 of my Brunswicks. I also have a Brunswick Cortez. I play them more than any of my other machines. The motors are extremely quiet and the machines are well made.

I have two 122's (not certain about that model #), one in very dark mahogany, the other in golden oak.

Hope to find room for them in the house someday...
