Hi,
You first have to split the blank until you attain the desired thickness. This is done by finding the "weak layers" with a very strong augmentation loupe and light and working with a very thin razor blade. Then the final layers can be removed using sellotape (yes, the humble sellotape!).
Once you have the blank with the desired thickness you cut it with a wide margin using scissors and you turn it down in the lathe to the derided diameter tightly hold between two aluminum blanks of thas same diameter.

Very nice job. Did you do the plating yourself? Electro or electroless?

Hi Django,
I do the plating myself. I use nickel anodes so "electro".

Very impressive, Pedro. It is often more difficult to restore something that is far gone than it is to reproduce it. I’m glad that you don’t take the easy path. I look forward to following more of your projects. I hope that you take the time to share them.
