Well I’m 28 and am beginning as a collector, besides the harmony, I have a graphophone from my birthday and a panatrope my neighbor gave me that was really messed up until me and my dad fixed it, I live in Georgia.

I think i would have said. Im a new collector and ask if anyone has a cheap machine. I have a. EDISON standard i paid $40 for it . It is missing the lid but plays well. I have bought a Victor VV-VI for 2 dollars at auction. Deals are there but you have to do the leg work

Most of us enjoy collecting and joy that comes with it. A lot of it is the hunt and getting the deal. The cleaning and displaying and the work of repairing. A lot of us are over fifty and have worked hard for what we have . Personally, me, I count my blessings and do not mind sharing if that will get someone else interested. They only allow one phonograph per person when you get into heaven. I have not heard how many are allowed below. Tom

I know I've received a few machines as gifts in my time; but those were mostly serendipity.

To be frank, if you really want something, you've got to get out and hunt for it. It takes patience, bargaining, and scrimping and saving,; but eventually you'll find something - and it's much more satisfying than having it handed to you on a platter.

You're young, and can afford to wait. Good luck in the hunt! :D :clover:

I'm not sure you're being a good model for us either, with that kind of grammar.

It's ok. Anyways, I feel a little for this fella. I've wanted a cylinder machine of at least some type for a while now, but I haven't been able to find anything priced for what I'm willing to pay. Although I haven't found any good leads, the stories of cheap auction machines and basement finds give me hope, so I'll keep on searching for a cheap one until it's mine. It's just a nice casual waiting game, in which you must be patient to get what you desire, for the cost that's right.

for me the first of anything was always hardest, when I was 14 I saw an Ampex 200 tape machine and wanted one ...now keep in mind this is like wanting a Tin Foil machine (they made 112 of them) well 21 years later I got one ....then three months later a second ......keep looking you will find one :)

Then save your money and get beginner level stuff.

I have been collecting for 15 years and I got two operas. It didn't happen over night.
