The site is somewhat confusing.. In the shipping and handling page you open for details it states that " Will arrange for local pickup only (no shipping).

Somehow that sounded like no shipping? Perhaps the site has been revised since the one up here was put on some time ago.

It also says "Local pickup"

Under that it says for "ships too" Local pick up only..

So the site if wrong is problematic.

I have not yet heard anything from the two notes I sent when I realized that the site was saying no shipping.. But its only been a little over 24 hours and it is sunday..

This is NOT a simple matter like rebuilding a No. 2 Victor.)

I don't know where the poster got the notion that the reproducer would not be sent back. The very first sentence is "What you are paying for, is a reasonable fee, for me to examine your Sound Box and the return Priority Postage."

You send him your reproducer, he examines it and tells you what he can do for you and the cost and you then decide if you want the repairs. If not, you let him know that and he sends the reproducer back. If so, he fixes it and bills you the balance through eBay (the "private listing" he talks about--it works like a "buy it now"). eBay does not loose a nickel! When you pay, the repaired reproducer comes back to you.

There is nothing even remotely shady about this! I highly recommend Peter's services. He can do a lot to improve the performance of Ortho reproducers, even the ones that are so badly cracked they can't be taken apart.

I just looked at the page again and the current page does not say that. Nothing about priority shipping. But then neither does the example up on this thread say that?

Larry,
I have also had a reproducer repaired/rebuilt by Peter Wall. He did a great job and I would send him another if I needed one done. I think he is sometimes a little slow to respond and I too was concerned when I ordered on Ebay and it took a while to hear from him.( You will see this in a thread here that I started) However, he did eventually contact me and the wait was certainly worth it. Because of all the wonderful technology we have today, we have all become used to being able to get in touch with everyone in a matter of minutes, through emails, cell phones, etc. but I guess we all need to have a little patience and realise there are more things in life other then our phonographs. ;) Happy collecting, Jan.

I can't comment on the seller as I have never dealt with him. But as far as selling a service on Ebay if it was against the rules it isn't any more. Ebay is setting up and releasing a beta program for selling your service in your area. I have been sent a email by EBay to see if I was interested in joining this beta program. After reading about it basically you sign up and offer your service. As people search ebay in your area for a item related to your service, Ebay will show them your available service. Right know everything is free but will become fee oriented in the future but there was no indication when that may be. Probably depends on how successful it becomes.
Best Regards, Larry

He does a great job. He rebuilt my Japanese Orthophonic reproducer and it sounds like an electric machine. I don't hear buzzing and blasting. It was reasonably priced. I had a great experience. He could not get the back off since mine was swollen. He replaced ball bearings, soldered the spider and whatever else could be done. It is my understanding he has the proper tools and been doing it for years, he has written technical articles. Very few people have that skill....I know I don't.

Larry, go back to the beginning of this thread and look. The opening sentence of the listing is a direct copy and paste from the body of the listing as originally quoted, which is the subject of this thread. I could not get the URL included in that post to work, by the way.

It is true that the language has now changed in the newest listing. However, the price is only $2.99 when I last looked. More than reasonable for evaluation of a unit IMHO. When I last used the service via eBay, it was $8.94 for the initial evaluation, which included the prepaid return postage.

Please understand that I am not attacking the original posting member of the Forum. I know that for somebody who does not know all the fine points of how eBay works, it can be confusing. However, when someone--even ever so innocently out of misunderstanding--starts maligning a respected member of our collector community, the record needs to be put straight.

WOW - Talking about making a mountain out of a mole hill - geeeezzz. If you know how to fix an Orthophonic reproducer than fix it yourself :x I have heard from many people that Peter Wall is the premier expert on these reproducers. And all ya care about is violating EBay policies? You need to get on with your life or take a course on Orthophonic repairs - if there is such a thing!
