Got inside the barrel. Spring looks ok. Thoughts? Looks like I have to take this spring out to get to the other one.

No, you don't have to get that spring out to get to the other one. The big gear should come off of the other side once the bent tabs are straightened a bit. May take some tapping with a rubber or rawhide mallet, (so as not to damage the gear teeth).Iantsimpson wrote:Got inside the barrel. Spring looks ok. Thoughts? In the one side that you opened, is the spring's innermost end connected to, (hooked to), the center shaft? Or, would the shaft spin freely within the spring?

The first spring on the “screw” side actually was broken in one place that the first picture didn’t show. Got to the bent tab spring and it looks to be in working condition... pictures below..JerryVan wrote:In the one side that you opened, is the spring's innermost end connected to, (hooked to), the center shaft? With this said, what is the best way to measure the broken mainspring so I can go about buying a new one to install? Anyone know?

Your best bet is to reassemble the barrels (sort of), wait two weeks, then send the barrels with mainsprings inside to Ron Sitko. He will install a new mainspring (two would be better) of the proper size and charge only $15 beyond the cost of the mainspring. You'll bet your barrel assembly back all set to install in your motor.
I used to do all my own mainsprings (and other people's too), but for fifteen extra bucks I'm glad to have Ron do it.

Thanks for the advice.. I’ll be sure to save his information for the future. With that said, I’d like to try installing a new mainspring on my own. If I gave him the length and width could he sell me a mainspring or 2?

Yes, Ron will sell you mainspings for you to install in your barrels. You will, of course, want to send him the length measurement of the unbroken spring. He will also need to know the gauge (thickness) of the steel and whether the holes are round or pear-shaped.Iantsimpson wrote: I’d like to try installing a new mainspring on my own. And make sure you mark the barrels to show which way each spring winds into it, or else you might have to unpack and repack them again!phonogfp wrote:Yes, Ron will sell you mainspings for you to install in your barrels. Re: New to the forum. Need upright sanora phonograph help!
Going to need some time to get a mainspring. Working on finishing up measurements. In the meantime, I can’t seam to get the gear “lid” back on the side of the barrel with the bent tabs. I can get a few tabs in but not all of them. Any advice anyone?

You may have to rotate the gear to line up different tabs with other slots.
If that doesn't work slightly bend the tabs so they do line up with the slots.
Caution, do not bend the tabs more often than you need to. If the tabs are bent to many times they will start to break off.
