A friend of mine told me that the old steel needles hold up better than the new ones because the steel in the old needles was harder.edisonplayer

I had one needle that came with the player. I played a record just to test it out. Sounded like I expected (never really hearing a Victrola in person). Put the new one in. Boy, what a difference in sound. Didn't expect that much of an improvement. Also, reduced the drag. Really didn't expect that. One of my springs is slipping, so I can't get a good wind on, but with the new needles, the slow down was greatly reduced.
