As an addendum, they only sell in bulk.

Do you happen to know what the minimum order is and the price.

To clarify;
Original s/b, hard gaskets, old mica.
Sounded really good, despite the not-rebuilt state.
I do think it was properly aligned.

As for the "how loud is loudest" question.
These "Jumbo" needles ar significantly louder then a VICTOR NOS Fulltone.

To try to compare;
If I sit in my chair across the room, 4 meter distance from the machine, listening to the VV-XI, with a properly rebuilt #2 s/b, on Carusos La mia Canzone (HMV pressing)w/ a Victor full tone, its loud, but pleasantly loud.
Good, rich tone.
W/ the Jumbo, it gets unpleasant, not painful, but too loud.
No blasting, but the Man just belts a tad too much.

With the "Ory experiement" it was downright painful. Still no blasting, but it really hurt my ears.

I have found use for them, early marches, such as Sousa's Band get a great OOOMPH from these & also, I have a Zonophone from 1905, Professor Ranzato plays a lovely violin, but it is sadly at a very low volume, even w/ fulltone. But the Jumbo solves that & the Professor suddenly comes out strong, like he was an early Screamin' Jay Hawkins :D

Have you ever tried Victor Extra Loud NOS? I'm mostly curious just because of the other needles I tried that had the extra collar around them were louder than the Extra Louds...and since I don't have any equipment to measure actual decibels (and I'm guessing you don't either), I'm kinda curious to find a common ground...and I will get off my butt one of these days and post pictures (I have various funky needles, half of which I have no idea if the extra bells (quite literally) and whistles do anything).

And on a another related needles note....I have a tin of HMV "Condor" needles...anyone have any clue as to what those were supposed to do (they have little fins on the sides, about a third of the way up...different from the spade pointed needles)?

I think you'll be amazed at the difference, once you've installed a new diaphragm and soft gaskets. (I know I was the first time I had a #2 sound box overhauled.)

On the #2 sound box, as it was originally designed, the diaphragm was suspended in a single, split ring gasket. Not only did this dampen the ringing resonance of the mica, and prevent vibrations from being transferred from the diaphragm to the the sound box casing, itself; but it also allowed a large area of the diaphragm to plunge back and forth with the movement of the needle bar. This resulted in a loud as well as full sound quality.

Once rebuilt, you should notice a definite improvement in sound quality, and record wear will also be reduced.

O, yes, I'm well aware of that, I've rebuilt several No2 as well as Exhibitions & Columbias Viva-Tonal.

I have a box of HMV extra loud, they should probably be the same as Victors extra loud, don't they? Yes, the Bagshaw Jumbo are noticeably louder then these to. I also have an envelope of "TREK" extra loud, the Jumbo beats them to, by far. They are downright Evil :mrgreen:
Tomorrow I'll actually gonna ask around at my work, to see if I can't come up with a decibel meter, all in the name of science.

Please post pictures! I just love weird needles :P

OK...the needles on the right are the ones I mentioned (Songster brand...another needle that claimed to be the loudest on the market).

They were certainly louder than any straight up needle I've ever used. Wondering if anyone else has used these before. (the others are just a multitone needle).

Isn't that "Aegir" or however its spelled?
I've just seem them at eBay, and I remember that they also had a statement on the tin that they were the loudest needles around.
Thanks for posting!

edit;
Here we are, eBay Item #140201639141.
I did remember correctly!
The german text does say that they are uncompared when it comes to quality and loudness. Horrible price for an empty tin, IIRC there was a half full tin going for something like $20 a few weeks ago.

These are the "Condor" needles I mentioned (I have a German and a British tin). I've seen some that have the word "condor" actually stamped in the side of the needle...no idea what the fins are for. And actually, I've never used these before...perhaps I should, but I somehow doubt I'll be able to tell a difference

In my latest machine i got, there were a few tins in the deal, so to speak.
One was a Dog&Baby (how is that for a trademark rip-off?!?!) long-playing needles. They looked just like that. I sold them, so I can't show them here, unfortunately.
I have no idea what the design is meant to improve :?:

And as long as I'm in the weird needle department...I know someone posted the same needle on a previous board, but here are mine...never used them. There is an instruction sheet too (which I've never bothered to read).
