My opinion on this matter- it isn't a lubricant but I've used it when there is nothing else. There is a little bit of oil in it, but there is also a solvent which tends to liquefy any dried oils already on the item- so in the short run it can be useful- once you free the joint up you must clean it thoroughly before things gum up. Many years ago i got a 1909 mantle clock working again by spraying the movement with WD40. 20 years later when i was into clock repair & restoration i decided to restore the clock i sprayed and when i pulled the movement out, the WD40 had turned into a sticky mess, like it had adhesive sprayed on it.estott wrote:JohnM wrote:Do NOT use WD-40!
