My earlier comment was only about what I could see in regards to correctness and completeness. Aside from the usual cleaning and motor service I would not make any decisions yet about what I would change, repair, correct, or leave as is. It may be my aging eyes, but I just cannot make out in enough detail if - for example - the gilding in the horn is/was paint or gold leaf, or how well and how recently it was applied. It may have been some "flipper" who applied it with the rest of the "restoration" in the more recent past in order to make a quicker and bigger buck. With all the rust spots in between it may be difficult to preserve/repair. I do agree that a period modification or upgrade would be something to add interest and well worth preserving. But like I said, without clearer pictures and some gentle cleaning I would be hesitant to make a recommendation just yet.

Agree, very hard to tell from the pics but my best guess would be that the machine has suffered an amateur stripping/refinishing and the horn was spray painted at some point. Still it's got all the parts there and with a proper refinishing, (nice piano finish), new nickeling and a Cline quality re-do of the horn, it could be a show piece again.

Thanks all,
I know it was stripped just by looking at it.
The gold leaf is not "horrible"

The main issue is that my pick up guy fell through so I have no way to get it to NY.
I asked around but no one seems to be close to where he is in southern CA.

:(

I skimmed through replies and didn't see where anyone said the gold leaf was "horrible." We really don't know if it is paint or gold leaf so it's all speculation at the moment. If that machine were potentially mine and my pick up person fell through I would be placing an ad in the Trader Section asking someone to pick up and machine and deliver it to a business that packs and ships including your packing suggestions. I would expect to compensate them for their time, effort, and miles driven. I hope it works out for you.

I went the our Trader Section next and saw that you placed an ad. I hope it works. JB

Wow... and he nearly doubled the price?

NOW I see he's willing to drop it off at a pack/ ship place. Nice. :(
