Proportions don't look right. It looks to me like 18" of legs are missing.

Would this have been a custom machine made by cabinetmakers or a factory production re-motored with a Victor motor? Either way, I think it's awesome. That thing deserves a nice library to sit in someplace.

I like the side panel closing and hiding the crank hole. That's kind of a neat touch--would be neat if it was a slotted crank, easier to hide. At least that big motor should give plenty running time.

Beautiful carving!

Nope... The feet are correct and uncut.
How would you sit at the desk if it was 18" taller anyway. :p

Thanks everyone! I am very excited but the wife hates it :(

I would move some furniture around and get this thing where your wife might not mind it. This is really a neat piece of vintage furniture. Never mind the hidden phonograph. It's nice as a piece of carving, as a vintage desk and all that--and having a record player, and a windup one to boot, makes it even cooler.

Put a Corona 3 typewriter in it (they weigh about six pounds and change) or maybe an Esterbrook Dip-Less Fountain Well, and you've got what I would call an ideal writing spot. I love listening to 78s when I write.

For a homemade handyman machine this is exceptionally good! Beats the pants out of the homemade case machine I have!

I lied... :(

I looked closer and it IS cut down :( The player is also not correct. I believe it was an electric motor which would explain the side door and hand made crank hole. Plus the finish is different on the insert motor board. It is a mahogany and the cabinet is walnut. I want to do this right and restore it so keep an eye out for a wanted ad, lol.

For now it is a great conversation piece.

Charles,
It is funny you say that about the typewriter. I am going to display my Smith on it.
