I would HIGHLY recommend that the entire mechanism be removed from the cabinet and shipped separately (although possibly in the same large box). If you search this forum under "packing" you may find several helpful threads on this topic.

Remove the reproducer and crank from any phonograph that you're packaging and shipping. Wrap them separately in bubble wrap. You'll also want to make SURE to secure the carriage in place so it cannot move during transit. Good luck.

I'd add that the entire mechanism be separated from the case and shipped in separate double boxed oversized boxes for both the case and the mechanism. Shipping them together will cause the cabinet to get smashed in MANY instances.

In all the years that I have shipped Phonographs, I have found FED-EX/Kinkos locations do the best job of packing. Remove the reproducer and pack it separately, and wrap the phonograph in heavy bubblewrap, then give the wrapped Phonograph to the people at the Fed-Ex/Kinkos, and you can watch them on how they wrap and box it from there.. They do a great job!..Usually overkill..which is good.
