About the wood: "oil" might not be the best choice. Most people don't realize that slathering oil on 100 years of dirt is not going to clean it. You will want it clean first.

About the reproducer: that will need to be rebuilt. You like the sound; well, one of them rebuilt is amazingly lifelike and far better for the old records.

You're on the way. Try checking out a copy of The Compleat Talking Machine at your library. It has all you could want to know about fixing up an old player. And for records, put a Wanted ad in the Trader section of our forum. We'd probably have a big stash or two somewhere. 78s were pretty common back in the day; I bought some for 25 cents apiece early this year from some collectors.

You will love the music of the 1910s and '20s--there are so many styles represented, and the old records sound perfectly elegant on these early machines. Good luck with your Sonora!
