Consider that jazz records were popular records, and as such were made for a wide audience with budget in mind. Records were very expensive relative to today's cost for music, which ranges from nominal to free online. A typical Victor black label jazz record was 75 cents, where a 12" would have been $1.25. In today's money, a 10" dance record in 1927 cost $11, where a 12" would have cost the equivalent of $18.40.
