The reason later European records sound better on acoustic playback machines is because the Americans more aggressively followed electronic playback technology. Hence the record characteristic on the post 1935 American records with cut bass and boosted treble accomplished a finer groove pitch for longer recordings consistent with quieter playback when played electronically with proper equalization.
