James, I see that now. I had missed it. I was looking for something different. My type CM has a two brake pads mounted on a ring through which the governor passes through. In order to get at the mainspring (what I wanted to do), I needed to first remove the speed control bar (labelled B in your picture) to which the brake pad ring is attached. I had to slide the brake bar out of the way in order to (1) remove the governor assembly with the brake ring hanging from it and (2) get at the mainspring. It struck me as odd that to change the mainspring I had to disassemble nearly the entire motor, not just remove the barrel. This is a cumbersome system.

I suspect your motor is a later modification that makes it easier to service this model. My late Vic I has a serial number with the letter A in it. I think there are also B-, C-, and D-machines, each having some subsequent modification.

Would you like me to take some photos of my motor, to see the brake ring that I refer to? Not a problem.
