I don't mean to be pedantic, but all Victor Rs were front-mount machines. When equipped with a back bracket and tone arm, it was a Victor I.

Now that I'm through being a jerk, I can report that I've never seen a tapering arm on a Victor I with the R cabinet!

But wouldn't the ID tag still say Victor R?
Yep, but it's really a I. A rear-mount E is really a II, a rear-mount M is really a III, etc. It's basically semantics, and I'm just being a jerk, but newcomers might not know how Victor marketed the early back-mounted series.

George,
You're not "jerkish" at all. I guess I learned something new about Victors.

Nobody is being a jerk. It's a conversation among friends. It's my belief that we are discussing a topic created by a persons in the Victor Advertising Department. The Victor R was the lowest priced machine in the Victor lineup and it was called "Victor the First." The titles sounded really classy particularly when you get to the top of the line. A "Victor the Sixth" sounds like something meant for royalty. I think "Victor the First" was shortened to "Victor 1" in a record catalog. Is this whole point of view based on a machine catalog? When a dealer ordered from Victor did he ask for a Monarch Junior or Victor E when he wanted the front mount version and a Victor II when the rigid arm and later the tapered arm version was desired? I would be wonderful to see an original order form.

Respectfully, Jerry Blais

You've done the Monkey, you've done the Twist
And the Mashed Potatoes too
The Swim and The Fly have all gone by
There's a brand new dance for you

Come on do the jerk (Come on do the jerk)

As long as nobody calls George a hully gully or a frug we’re probably safe.

I thought the Vic Z frontmount is the machine that became a Vic I with the rearmount?

Just don't call me late for dinner.

The Victor "Z" used the same cabinet as the 2nd iteration of the Victor "I." And by that time, I believe Victor was marking the dataplates accurately! ;)

Sorry, I realize mine is not correct, it’s for a tapering arm upgrade not a rigid arm.

Just to get back to the OP's "wanted" post....I think Mark already mentioned on the first page the plate needed is for sale on Ebay.

Hope it helps complete your new machine... ;).
