I think they all had those doors and a mesh covered floor in back.

It's not an Electrola. No resistor in the back, no light socket, not a VE users manual, no electrical cord hole in the back.colmike1 wrote:With the hinged back doors, wouldn't this be an Electrola?

All true; but I don't see a crank escutcheon on the right side.JerryVan wrote:It's not an Electrola. No resistor in the back, no light socket, not a VE users manual, no electrical cord hole in the back.colmike1 wrote:With the hinged back doors, wouldn't this be an Electrola?

I have never seen a VV-XVIII without the back doors. I don't know if Victor had planned to make them all electric, up-gradable to electric or that because it was a low volume machine, they have just made all the cabinets the same, (or maybe there was another reason all together).colmike1 wrote:With the hinged back doors, wouldn't this be an Electrola?
I wrote to the seller of the VV-XVIII on Facebook and sent pictures of what the horn should look like from the front and back. They said that it is there. The machine may just need a motor and a lot of elbow grease, (or it may be one to pass on). The seller is open to offers, so it may be worth looking into, (or not).

I am glad that the horn wasn't removed. I would have been surprised it it had been because they were still using the original tone arm and reproducer. It looks like a good candidate for restoration.

I agree. People that have 100+ year old entertainment systems should not use text speak.Jerry B. wrote:I can see we need a new Forum rule.![]()
