I have had several good deals but this one was one of the more interesting.
I had placed a wanted ad on Craglist for "broken Victrolas and phonographs"
and a gentleman contacted me about his VV-100. It would not play a record
so I had to assume the worst that perhaps a spring was broken. I offered
$75 but he said that was too low. I then offered to throw in a wind-up
chiming wall clock as a bonus. The clock I got for free from a friend before
and I could not sell it for the life of me. Anyways, he happened to be
a clock aficionado so he agreed to the deal. When I went to pick it up I
was actually amazed by how MINT the cabinet was. Obviously it has never left
the safe harbor of a livingroom for its entire life. After getting it home
I discovered the motor was in good shape but just needed the springs cleaned
and greased. Now she plays like a dream. :)
