I can at least answer one of your questions. These machines are not commonly found in Europe or America because they were never sold there. The few that we see were usually brought home by Europeans and Americans at the end of their service in the Far East, as was the case with my G-208.

You have discovered a wonderful resource here, and when you have posted it in full it will be well worth printing and keeping. Well done!

Roger.

It it payback time, to the parish that taught me everything I so far know about gramophones...

Here come another four Columbia models:

Columbia Portable Model No.118A

Colombia Tabletop Model No.119

Colombia Tabletop Model No.120A ( 2 springs)

Columbia Portable Model G-120

Yes, they were never sold in Europe/USA, but still quite scary to know how rarely they turn up in the West or on Ebay.com, Roger. I worry they have been manufactured each in small numbers, and that they are now more or less...lost.

And another four.
I did not even yet dare to mention that I also have found some HMV models that are new to me, and a lot of Victor models too. I can't find the Victors on the Victorvictrola website. Did Victor have a factory in Asia too, and if so, what do we know about these models?

Chronologically...moving on with another four. I remember I once asked on the forum why Columbia UK were skipping numbers on their portables, and no one at that time could answer why, of course. We now know why....

It is getting almost overwhelming, but this is what we love, so I move on.
And we possibly now start to understand that the majority of known Columbia portable models, were never manufactured in UK/USA.

Another four:

Columbia Portable Model No.211

Columbia Portable Model No 212

Columbia Portable Model No.213
(Several clickable photos uploaded, also of the motor)
