Very nice restoration Ton

Thank you guys! The bedplate is next. Does anybody know of a good spray paint that gets the closest to the dark black color?

To make sure I dont ruin the bedplate decals I will probably try the zinsser spray shellac.

Good paint for something like this--I usually like that black lacquer stuff, the cheapest non-acrylic black lacquer I can get at the Ace Hardware.

A couple coats of that, polished, and with decals & a coat of spray shellac made my last bedplate (also a Fireside) come out quite good-looking.

When looking at the fireside bedplate decals on phonodecal.com, it doesnt seem to include the "2/4 minute" decal. Does anybody know if he includes it upon request?

I think it comes with it; for safety's sake it wouldn't be bad to ask.

Make sure you get the correct version. Some are 2-4 and others are 4-2

I finished painting and applying the decals on the bedplate of the fireside. All that is left is to apply micro-sol and then the shellac finish. After I finish I will be moving on to the cygnet horn. Getting very close!

How are you doing this? Spray or brush shellac? Lacquer or acrylic or epoxy paints? The whole thing looks "almost a little too perfect" but there's no such thing as too perfect. With all those nickel parts and a good horn installed, sitting in that refinished case, this is going to be a real fine example.

Still going for the Diamond B & a carriage swap? I know you have tons of 4-minute cylinders because of your Amberola 30 and Standard E but it depends on what you're playing. This thing is going to be amazing however its final configuration is.

For the finish I will use spray shellac, sand out the (unavoidable) orange peel texture and french polish. That way I can get a really great shine and shellac finish without any risk of damaging the decals.

I still am interested in swapping the carriage and reproducer out, but I'm not sure whether or not or keep or sell the ones that came with it.
