I feel like one of those cartoon guys who miss the subject of a picture for ogling the included comely female instead; I guess there are some horns in your photo somewhere, but my eyes are drawn and riveted to the (A? B?) 250 or Amberola I and even more the (A? B?) 150--unlike mine, with all six original storage albums in good shape, not three that have seen better days, yet!--in the background. Nice, nice, nice!
The machine directly behind the invisible horns is a B-250 I've had for 43 years, and the machine in the left background is an Amberola III. Thanks for your kind words.

My abject apologies to the Amberola

--from this distance, that looked like a disc reproducer. Are those cylinder storage albums? I've heard of such but never seen one. I've managed to get together three of the disc ones for my A-150; two, both more or less beat up, are from eBay, but the best one came from an Amazon marketplace reseller, of all things! Meanwhile, some Victor L-door type boxes sit with them to fill the shelf (and three more, replaced by the Edison originals as I've latched onto them, lurk out of sight under the shelf.) One of my ongoing dreams is to finish out the set some day.
Back on topic, I finally managed to tear my eyes away from the machines and noticed some horns really are in the photo. Very pretty ones, at that. Thanks for sharing!

No apologies are necessary for the Amberola. It's not easily offended, unlike many modern players. Yes, those are cylinder storage albums.

You're very welcome! I believe Standard was the only company to decorate black & brass horns this way. If you encounter one from a different company, be suspicious. Around 20-25 years ago, a lady was selling black & brass horns at the New Jersey shows, but she was the artist. (No, this wasn't Janyne Smith.) The art was well done, but I feared someone being exploited at some point.

A friend, acquaintance, etc., has something that you have expressed an interest in buying from them, should they decide to sell. They seem to note your interest. Then, after some time passes, the item goes up for sale, or just plain gets sold, without a hint of it to you. It's happened to me many times. Maybe it says something about me,

, but it's also happened to friends of mine. Maybe it's just best to chalk it up to forgetfulness and move on...
BTW Curt, I'm NOT suggesting anything negative about your collector friend, or for that matter, about my friends who have done the same. Just a quirk of human nature that I haven't figured out I guess.
Anyway, very happy that your pursuit of that very cool horn ended well for you. The hunt should make it all the more special and fun.
By the way, if you should ever want to sell it...

It's happened to me many times as well, not just in phonos but other areas. I think what it is is that the friend feels guilty about their asking price, feeling somehow obligated that they "should" discount to a friend, but they want the max they can get.
I think you're probably correct about that.
