Of all the records you could throw out the window, Edison diamond discs are the best choice. They will survive unscathed.

Unlike anyone unlucky enough to be hit by one!

I think I read somewhere about them having a wooden core? Or are the solid shellac?

According to the Frow book, the core is a composite material of wood flour, phenol, and formaldehyde mixed with a solvent like alcohol. To this core was applied a playing surface of phenolic resin, "condensite." To avoid separation of the layers, the formula was eventually modified to include something called hexa-methylenetetramine. Say that three times fast!

I was going to say... this Diamond Disc tastes nothing like Twinkies, even with hydrogenated shortening and high fructose corn syrup on top!

The formula changed in the 1920’s to China clay instead of wood flour. Made them more Gluten free!

The older etched labels used the wood flour. I knew of a old time collector in the Rockford IL area who had flood damage from when the Rock River flooded out his garage workshop. His hoard of Edison etched discs were damaged. He claimed to use the destroyed disc as fuel in his work shop wood stove for the winter months.
