Stephen, thanks for the photo of the record cleaner. That is a rarity.

Thanks everyone for your kind welcome.

Yes, the Maxonola is an interesting machine and its performance would no doubt be improved by attending to the sound box and sealing any leaks. A task for another day. Actually I have quite a few projects that will probably have to wait until another day. The most nagging one is a pedestal for a G&T Melba that I picked up for $50 at a garage sale about 20 years ago. It is missing its hardware but otherwise complete. I have restored quite a few cabinets in the past but never a ebonised one. I know where to buy the reproduction hardware here in Sydney.

I started collecting gramophones in 1979 when I found a table top Rexonola 25 at a junk shop. That was also my first restoration which, given my lack of knowledge and the limited resources around at the time, it turned out pretty well. I've only recently started playing with my machines again after a lengthy flirtation with antique clocks, preceded by fountain pens and before that, lamps etc etc. As they say, one is too many and 100 not enough.

Thanks for the information GramophoneShane. I have done a search for more information on the net. Apart from the film and some ads for secondhand machines, there is not much available.

Cheers

What is the deal with phonograph collectors also having lamps, clocks, and fountain pens? That's awesome--but there seems to be a pattern here.

I forget to mention classic cars. That should complete the pattern.

Hi Mark. I'm also in Australia and new to this forum.
A couple of Maxonola have recently surfaced on the Gramophone and Phonograph Collectors Downunder group on Facebook.
They are a great looking machine.
Regards Adrian
