Most records are worth a few cents, but there are indeed many records that sell for $40 or much more. The most I can recall getting for a record was $250. The most I can recall paying is $100, but I'm not as "serious" a collector as many.
WOW thats just crazy. I guess I wouldn't consider myself a "serious" music collector then
. I have been really happy with what I have been able to find around thift shops and craigslist. Granted most of the good ones have been among a bunch of records I could care less about
(late victors, decca's, and capitols's)
It'll grow on you in time. I just hope my wife doesn't sell everything for what I told her I paid for it if I croak first.

It all boils down to what you like, what you want or "need" and what you can afford... I was lucky once, I paid $50 for a record that I really didn't care for, but because of it's history, someone offered me $1250 for it... guess what, I don't own it any more...
